We watched American Werewolf In London quite recently. It was Graham's suggestion one evening, though I had been thinking about it a lot. I've seen a few interviews with John Landis where he talks about his thinking behind this transformation scene and how it seemed obvious to him that it would really, really hurt for your body to change its physical shape that much, something that previous werewolf films hadn't really shown before. John Landis is a wise man. It never crossed my mind that pregnancy would work in much the same way. I swear I can hear my ribs cracking today. Ouch. Still loving it though :)

The post ...
we were going to go and see john landis at the Cheltenham Literature Festival but he was poorly/un able to come. ive seen this film a few times...but the best time was when we had a big group of friends come over last halloween and we made a big pot of chilli and watched it...but i fell asleep.
ReplyDeleteLove the comparison of turning in to a werewolf and being pregnant :-)
ReplyDeleteI always refer to John Landis as my uncle (he's my fantasy uncle). He just seems so lovely. I was a bit upset when I found out all the shady stuff from his past quite recently but I'm trying to forget it and not let it tarnish the love I feel for him! Making a pot of chilli to go with an evening of horror films is quite hardcore. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if werewolves get achy hips and squashed lungs that make them pant when they so much as try to turn over in bed... Werewolves probably don't sleep in beds, do they?
Laura, did you never get into Being Human? The last series had a pregnant werewolf in it! She (not spoiling it by naming names, for anyone who hasn't seen it yet) was pregnant at the same time as me, in my hormonal fug I thought that the comparison was a very. cheap. shot.
ReplyDeleteThe main vampire in the programme is really quite tasty, too, if you need more incentive to look for a box set.
I used to like Being Human a lot but had gone off it by that series, though I did subtitle some of it. I had forgotten about the pregnant werewolf though. I never liked that character - one of the reasons I gave up watching it! I suppose the comparison is pretty obvious given the pregnant-lady fur I have grown all over my tummy. I'm getting quite attached to my furry tummy now though, it's kind of cute.
ReplyDeleteHa, I know what you mean about Nina, but the more werewolf she became the more sympathetic I found her character. The perma-sour face suddenly started to make sense!
