I'm getting the feeling I might be the only one who's interested in quilling around here, but I shall carry on regardless and present you with the teatime quilling update. I think I still like it, but I'm foreseeing problems now. 1) How do I finish it? Quill tightly right up to the edges and leave no white space or try to be arty and leave loose curly bits? I think the second option would look better, but might be beyond my artistic inabilities. 2) I'm not managing to get decent photos of it (though admittedly it is practically dark today) and if I can't get a photo of it, I can't turn it into postcards. Waaah! I'll plough on. I'm really enjoying curling the paper and fitting it into little pockets of space so it's been a good day's occupational therapy even if we don't get anything out of it at the end. And we may still have an end product! I haven't written it off just yet!
It hasn't really taken me all day to do this. After lunch I went and pursued my latest hobby - afternoon napping. I've had a pretty decent nap every afternoon this week, I think. It started off when I had the cold and so had an excuse. Now I'm all better, but I just can't give up the napping. I don't know how I'll cope when I have to go back to the life of ten hour shifts in a few days' time. Now that I'm up and about again post-nap, I'm wearing clothes (obviously) with my slippers and my dressing gown (with hood up) and have a hot water bottle shoved up my top. I'm so cosy! I can't believe it's only taken a fortnight off work for me to get to this stage...
Ooh, I like it. Are you doing all blue? In my head, egg yolk yellow would go awesome with that. It looks pretty amazing considering you're new to the sport!
ReplyDeleteThanks :) I'm doing some purple just now. I was planning to do it all in tones of blue, but you're right that some yellow would look very nice. I might add some tomorrow. I'm starting to like it more again now, so I might do a wee range of them with different words. Quilling really is so therapeutic. You should keep some on your desk for when it's all going pear-shaped!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilling efforts and I think I'd like to give it a go! How did you get started or any useful tips for someone who has never quilled(?) before but is very excited all the same?
ReplyDeleteIt really is so easy. You just need quilling paper and a quilling tool, both of which are available for next to nothing online. I can't remember where I got mine from, but the paper strips are by a company called Paper Palace. You'll also need tacky liquid glue (I'm using an all-purpose glue for fabric, paper etc) that dries clear. Just roll the paper strip round the tool, let it unfurl a bit (as loose or as tight as you like) and glue the end in place. Then you can squeeze it into whatever shape you like and glue it in place. That actually makes it sound more complicated than it is. I'm sure if you give it a go it will all make sense and since the supplies are so cheap, it's definitely something you should try. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteYou are not the only one! I love quilling, was a bit of a demon at it in my teens but haven't had a go in ages. I may pick up my quilling tool again some time soon. I love what you've done here.
ReplyDeleteYou should! Perhaps we can all start a quilling club. Not sure I can think of any sadder sounding club, mind you... Enjoy the paper rolling :)
ReplyDeletenoooooooo....don't quit quilling. Your work is lovely and I see you have been inspired by Yula.
ReplyDeleteThere are a whole bunch of us here in blogland. Go to my blog and check out my quilling blog roll. You will be surprised how many of us there are.
Keep quilling
Cheryl
